Thali Tracker
Privacy Policy
Effective 3 September 2026 · Last updated 3 September 2026
The short version. Thali Tracker does not collect your data. Everything you record stays on your phone. We operate no servers, run no analytics, show no ads, and have no way to see what you log. If you switch on Google Drive backup, your data goes to your own Google Drive account, in a private folder that only this app can open — we cannot reach it.
1. Who we are
Thali Tracker ("the app", "we", "us") is an independent Android application for keeping track of thali and mess meals and what you owe for them. You can reach us at phantombluefire11@gmail.com.
2. What the app stores
The app stores the following on your device, in its own private app storage:
- Meal entries — the meal type, its price at the time, the meal time and the date.
- Meal types you define and their prices.
- Payment and settlement records — amounts, dates, payment method and any note you add.
- App preferences — such as dark mode and your backup settings.
That is the complete list. The app has no sign-up, no user account and no profile. It never asks for your name, phone number, address, date of birth, contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos or any device identifier.
3. What we collect: nothing
We do not collect, receive, store, sell, rent or share any of your information. There is no Thali Tracker server. The app contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind. We cannot see your meals, your payments or how you use the app.
4. Where your data can travel
Your data stays on your device unless you deliberately move it. There are exactly four ways it can leave, and each is something you choose to do:
| Action | Where the data goes | Can we see it? |
|---|---|---|
| Google Drive backup (optional, off by default) | Your own Google Drive, into the hidden app-data folder | No |
| Export backup | A JSON file saved wherever you choose on your device | No |
| Share this month's bill | Whichever app you pick in the share sheet | No |
| Android system backup | Your Google Account backup, run by Android itself | No |
Google Drive backup
If you turn on Drive backup, the app asks for a single Google permission:
drive.appdata. This grants access to a hidden folder inside your own Google Drive that
only Thali Tracker can read or write. Files placed there do not appear in your normal Drive view,
and no other app — including anything of ours — can open them. We never receive your Google
account credentials; sign-in is handled entirely by Google Play Services on your device.
The app keeps a limited number of recent backups and deletes older ones automatically. You can disconnect your Google account at any time from the backup screen, which revokes the app's access. Backups already in your Drive remain yours; you can delete them from your Google Account settings.
Thali Tracker's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Android system backup
Android's own backup feature is enabled for this app so that your meal history survives a phone upgrade or factory reset. This is operated by Google as part of Android, not by us, and is governed by your device's backup settings and Google's privacy policy. You can switch it off in your device settings under Google → Backup.
5. Permissions the app requests
| Permission | Why |
|---|---|
| Internet | Only to upload and download your Google Drive backups. The app is fully usable with no internet connection. |
| Network state | To avoid attempting a backup when there is no usable connection, and to respect your Wi-Fi-only setting. |
The app requests no other permissions.
6. Children
Thali Tracker is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone. As the app collects no data at all, there is nothing for us to collect from a child.
7. Your control over your data
- Delete everything — uninstalling the app removes all data stored on your device.
- Delete Drive backups — disconnect your account in the app, then remove the app's data from your Google Account's connected-apps settings.
- Take your data with you — Export backup writes a plain JSON file you fully own.
Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing to request from us, correct with us, or ask us to delete. Your rights under laws such as the GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act are satisfied by the fact that no personal data ever reaches us.
8. Security
Your data lives in the app's private storage, which Android isolates from other apps. Backup traffic to Google Drive uses HTTPS only; the app refuses unencrypted connections. Please note that data on your own device is ultimately protected by your device's own lock screen and encryption.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
